The flower loom can be either circular or square. Traditionally, it has the same number of pegs as a clock (12) that goes around the edge. There are other versions that contain considerably more pegs. This article is going to look at the one with 12 pegs. As well, this type of loom comes in a variety of sizes from approximately 1" to 4".
This type of loom is different from other looms in that the warp and weft aren't really used. With this loom you thread the material (usually cotton) around the pegs. They are then locked in place with weaving cotton (either the same or different as you first used) around the middle. You can also weave a layer around the outside. Does this sound confusing? Let's have a look and see if it can become a bit clearer. |

Tips
Extra Note: The square version of the flower loom could easily be mistaken for a square loom. The pegs are too far apart for it to be considered a square loom. Of course, if you intended to have big gaps in your finished product (such as for a doily) it would be find to use the square flower loom as a square loom. Unfortunately, most instruction manuals (better referred to as booklets) that come with weaving looms aren't overly explanative regarding how to use them. For this reason, I would recommend you either access sites such as this or go searching on youtube (or equivalent) to see how other people are doing it. Apart from that happy weaving. |
