The Shape Loom
There are are a number of looms of different shapes. The circle loom can also be included in this lot even though it is used for other looming projects. When you think of it, any shape can really be included. This includes square and rectangles. Common examples of shapes includes hearts, circles, hexagons, octagons and many more.
Shape looms follow the tradition means of weaving in that the warp goes on first and the weft interlaces it. There is no depth in this type of weaving though. The size of the your project is the size of your loom. The warp goes on diagonally (or corner to corner). The warp could also go side to side - again, there are different ways to do it. This is a little finicky when you are using unusual shapes such as the heart, circles etc. Let's have a look at how it is done. |

There are a number of different ways you can weave on a different shape loom. It depends on what finished product you are after. The warp can have multiple layers in different directions. The weft might just tie off the joins and make something like a doiley.
As with most weaving, there are multiple things that can be done on each different loom. It is up to you what you want to do. |

Tips
Unfortunately, most instruction manuals (better referred to as booklets) that come with weaving looms aren't overly explanative regarding how to use them. For this reason, I would recommend you either access sites such as this or go searching on youtube (or equivalent) to see how other people are doing it. Apart from that happy weaving. |
