The sock loom may be considered, by some, as one of the most complex and frustrating types of looms. This is because of two reasons. First you need to do calculation to ensure you are creating the right size sock. Second, you need to keep careful note of each row as you go because you have to do more complex procedures at a specific point to do the heel.
Overall though, the sock loom is a rectangular look (similar to the scarf loom). It does have a moveable gauge in the middle which you set for whatever size sock you are creating (after you have done the grueling calculations). Once you have made the calculations the basic steps are:
The kit you get with your sock loom should contain instructions regarding the calculations. If it doesn't, there are a number of places you can go online to get the details of the formula. I would be a little worried if people didn't find this just a little confusing. To clear it up, lets have a look. |

And, don't forget, you need to go through the process twice so you have a sock for each foot. Tips
Unfortunately, most instruction manuals (better referred to as booklets) that come with weaving looms aren't overly explanative regarding how to use them. For this reason, I would recommend you either access sites such as this or go searching on youtube.com (or equivalent) to see how other people are doing it. Apart from that happy weaving. |
